Qinghai Tibet Railway Sightseeing Station

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the engineering wonder of China, has been built on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. There are 45 stations from Golmud to Lhasa and every station has unique scenery. To provide travelers better opportunity to enjoy the stunningly beautiful scenery along the way, nine scenery viewing platforms have been offered at nine stations, including: Yuzhu Peak Station, Chumaer River. Qinghai Lake & Bird Island

On the train from Xining to Golmud, you’ll get the chance to view the “Green Lake”, Qinghai Lake. It is the largest inland and salt water lake in China. As a National Nature Reserve and a National Park, it is rich in rare species of birds and fishes. The famous attractions here are Haixin Shan(Hill of the Sea Heart), Shadao(Sand Inland) and Niaodao(Bird Island). The Bird Island is one of the lake’s highlights, which lies in the northwest corner of Qinghai Lake. It is the kingdom of the birds, a heaven of the reproduction of Asian birds. Every May and June, the best time for bird watching.

Kunlun Mountain(Mt. Yuzhu Station)

At Yuzhu Station, you will feel the snow-white scenery surrounding you magnificently. Yuzhu Peak is one of the ranges of Kunlun Mountain which is not only famous for its grandeur but also the color jade it produces. Among the snow and the grassland, rare animals are leaping and skipping, presenting a beautiful picture of nature. Plus, there are a lot legends and fairy tales have something to do with Kunlun Mountain, such as Chang'e (the goddess of the moon), Xi You Ji (Pilgrim to the West), and Bai She Zhuan (Legend of the White Snake).

 

Chuma'er River Station

Chuma’er River Station is the vital point on the route of the Tibet antelope migration path. You could see the northern source of the Yangtze River and the Chuma’er River Bridge from this station. The bridge is 2,565 meters long with 78 bridge arches for the Tibet antelope to pass through. During June, July and August, flocks of pregnant antelopes trek from the east part of the Kunlun Mountains via this area and head further west to the hinterland of Kekexili to give birth to their offspring.

 

Tuotuo River Station

Tuotuo River is the the Source of China’s longest river, Yangtze River. The turbulent Yangtze River with a length of 6380 kilometers begins from this gentle highland river and surges all the way to the East Sea. Natural scenery around this area is unique and amazing, with bamboo-shaped ice bars, ice bridges, ice lakes and other features of glacier physiognomy. On the Tuotuo River scenery-viewing platform, travelers can experience the glittering wide river.

 

Buqiangge Station

You can never feel bored on the train to Tibet. From Mt. Yuzhu Peak Station to Tanggula Mountain Station, the train will pass by Holxil Area, you’ll be lucky to have a glance at the stunningly beautiful Kekexili Nature Reserve. It is a special and unique place which is on the northern Tibetan Plateau. The most famous among them are Kekexili lake, Sun lake and Xuelian lake. Kekexili nature reserve mainly protects the habitat of indigenous wildlife. It is home to most of the Tibetan antelope, wild donkeys and wild yaks of Tibet. It has gained a reputation for "paradise of plateau wildlife" and "kingdom of wildlife".

Tanggula Mountains

Tanggula Mountain literally means “mountain on the plateau”. While the Tanggula Mountain Pass which is between two snow mountains is the highest point of Qinghai-Tibet Highway . It is also the watershed of Yangtze River and Nu River. Regarded as a dangerous place for mountaineers and a place closest to the heavens, the snow on the mountain never gets melted and the road is flimsy.

Cona Lake Station

Cona Lake is a holy lake respected by the locals. The lake like a glittering blue pearl among the vast grassland, reflects the blue sky and the fluffy white clouds. The great variety of fish in the lake has drawn many animal species including dark-necked crane, swans, wild duck and mandarin duck to inhabit the area.

 

Naqu Station

Nagqu Station is a good spot to view the endless fertile Changtang Grassland. Changtang Grassland is a culturally abundant land as well as a paradise for your wild animals and plants. On the vast grassland, you could see yaks, sheep and nomadic people’s camps everywhere. You can appreciate the colorful long-standing nomadic culture created through the nomadic men and women here. Probably the most appealing will be the festival clothes worn by nomads, specially women and middle-aged women. At festivals, many of the ladies and middle-aged females use attractive and high-priced Tibetan gowns and hang a great deal of tinkling trinkets with them, which can be truly a good looking scene.

Damxung Station

The beautiful Changtang Grassland scenery stretches all the way from Nagqu to Damxung. The area around the station is dotted with grazing sheep and yaks. The railway runs parallel to the Qinghai-Tibet highway through the Damxung prefecture. Damxung railway station is regarded as the most characteristic Tibetan style architecture along the Tibetan railway.

 

Yambajan Station

Yambajan is world-famous for a spectacular phenomenon of hot springs boiling on the cold plateau. It is a place rich in earth heat resources and hot springs. If you are lucky enough, you may have a chance to witness the fantastic and splendid scene: the boiling water is erupting to the sky from the mouth of hot spring.
