Yak plays a very important role in Tibetan living. It is not only a major food source, but also a important transportation tool. At the same time, yak’s bone, leather and fur are valuable materials.
Inhabiting in high plateau with elevation of more than 4000m, Tibetan Yak itself a rare species. Tibet government started to build a yak theme museum several years ago. The construction will be finished soon.
This Tibetan Yak Museum is located in Liuwu New District, Lhasa City. As the only Yak theme museum in China, it covers more than 8,000 square meters. It includes three themes: Yak – Nature and Science, Yak – History and Humanity, Yak – Sprit and Art, which introduces clearly about the origin, evolution, domestication, and the special culture created by yaks and Tibetan.
According to latest news, the Tibetan Yak Museum will be opened for public in 18th, May, 2014.
